| The top priority is to reform school funding so that the state provides more, so we can start to dial down our current over-reliance on property taxes. This would require redesigning the funding formula (TEEOSA) and also allocating additional dollars to schools at the state level. We could fund this by utilizing existing property tax relief funds in addition to identifying specific exemptions, loopholes, and carveouts in the existing tax code to find additional revenue without raising tax rates. We can also expand our tax based by expanding gambling and providing other new revenue sources. |
